Depending on stock we may upgrade your camshaft selection, but we will never downgrade it. If you need this in a hurry we have discounted express shipping rates which are listed at checkout. Shipping to a commercial address such as work or a shop is less expensive.
We also recommend Joe Gibbs Break in oil, please search for "Joe Gibbs" break in kit. Make sure whatever break in oil you use is high Zinc.
This is our standard BEW cam replacement kit for when you change out the camshaft. Our camshaft is made in the EU, not China like some kits! We also have a deluxe kit that includes our complete timing belt kit, a deluxe filter package, and 5L of Lubromoly Longtime High Tech 5W40 505.01 motor oil. We feel that the 505.01 5W40 does a better job of protecting the cam than the 5W30 oils. This standard kit however includes the following:
1x Aftermarket Cam - 038 109 101R
8x OEM Black Lifters - 038 109 309 C
10x OEM Bearings - 038 103 673 B GLB
10x Journal cap bolts - 038 103 714 (Special Non-stretch torque to 144 lb/in)
8x Injector rocker bolts - 038 103 714 A (Special Non-stretch torque to 30 lb/ft)
1x Camseal - 068 103 085E(A)
1x OEM Tandem pump gasket - 038 145 215 (Only sent if requested, many shops don't go through the tandem pump to change the cam. Please put in the checkout notes if you need one of these or else it won't be shipped).
We also have OEM VW camshafts available for an additional charge, please contact us for availability and pricing.
CAMSHAFT BREAK IN PROCEDURE
*Put assembly lube on all lobes, lifter faces, distributor gears, bearing journals, lifter barrels and oil pump gears.
*Turn the engine over by hand to make sure that nothing is binding up (e.g. cam bearings are properly seated) and that timing is correct.
*Rev engine to 2000-3000 RPM for 20-30 minutes. Drain break in oil. Refill with break in oil and drive normally for ~500 miles. Drain oil again and refill with 505.01 5W40 oil such as FUCHS, Pentosin HPII or Lubromoly. Adding half to a full bottle of ZDDP additive is a good idea.
